Flight Director’s Report – Pat Denevan
There was an incident at Dunlap in which a pilot was turned into the hill south of the LZ while on the downwind leg of a landing approach. The pilot suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung, and is expected to recover. The Dunlap LZ can be active even late in the day. The Dunlap valley was especially unstable and thermally that day. The pilot was flying low and slow and was about to turn onto base leg over the training hill when he encountered turbulence. He had flown the previous day, but prior to that had not flown in a year.
Membership Services – Phyl Hamby
There are 311 paid members.
Ed Levin – Phyl Hamby
The road has been repaired near the top launch. Stan Boehm has cut most of the weeds in the LZ with a scythe. Phyl has been talking to the rangers about moving the water troughs near the lower training launches to make it easier to launch. The weather robot needs replacement. The phone line is also not working. A weather station made in Australia may be available as a replacement. Litek, the manufacturer of the existing weather station, has not responded to inquiries about repairing or replacing it. Wayne Michelson said he would contact Mark Grubbs about his research on available weather stations. The gate to the upper launches needs repair.
Mission Ridge – Roy Spencer
Information about the plans for additional parking lots has been removed from the Park’s website. Several designs are currently under review. Estimated completion date of the parking lot project is 3rd quarter 2015. Roy plans to contact the project manager about our concerns regarding the impact on the LZ. To date there has been no response from the EBRP to the WOR letter regarding the fee for additional insurance. Roy plans to procure some new windsocks.
Mount Diablo - None
Coyote Lake – None
Mt Umuhnum – Wayne Michelson et al
Flying is in the plans for the park. A final environmental impact report has been written. Avian groups are concerned about the impact of soaring flight in the area. The report proposes that our flights be restricted to 1000’ away from any nesting sites or soaring birds.
