Up From the Ed Levin 600 Launch

Postby Karl_A on Tue Mar 27, 2012 11:01 am

First, it needs a name.

Second, what is it? Launching from the 600 and getting over the 1750 (top) launch? Or just getting higher than the 1750? What if someone launches from the 600 and noodles around for an hour, bumping into an inversion and never gets above the 1750?

This practice is often called "Benching Up". While Ed Levin doesn't have the classic benches like some sites, it is a common term!

Nice flight Karl. Never discount the 600ft. hill

More than a few have done it from the 600ft but VERY few have done it from the 300ft. To my knowledge I know of one HG and one ridged.
A funny story between Rex and Kent.

Lets have a contest for the best name. :geek:

Yes, a contest. To run until the right name arrives. It's floating around in the aether somewhere, sooner or later it will make itself known. As for a prize, the obvious thing is a day when the winner can launch from the 600, get up and fly the rest of the afternoon. If I can't arrange that, a case or a bottle of the winner's favorite.

Post your entries.

How about...simply...

"Karl"
This could be used elsewhere too!
"I was flying this one time at Big sur, launched off the bluff, 80' above the beach, and then I Karled up to the back ridge and eventually Karled again all the way to Wild Cattle launch. Dude! I was so high off my Karling I could Ben off in any direction. I Benned south 30 miles until I hit some JT, sinking back to the bluff...but then! I Karled back up again! What an amazing flight!"
