Hello.Just a couple of freindly comments for NewJ visitors to prevent complaints or unwanted attention being drawn to our activities there. I am not an organizer of this event. The following are just some of my experiences and observations from flying mosquitos and towing there in the past. Any other comment or recomendations from NewJ users are welcome.
If you have not been to NewJerusalem, there are no services there. You may want to bring water, hat, sunscreen.
I was told that this airport was bult around the time of WWII and later given to the city of Tracy (who still owns it I believe) but all the surrounding property is privately farmed. I believe the runway is 3500 feet long.
There are two parallel runways with taxiways. The runway to the east has an overhead shade structure used by an RC club which has an outhouse nearby. The RC club lets us use this but they have asked us to drive slowly through the area. We might want to be polite to them of course.
New Jerusalem is used by general avitation pilots for practice landings an takeoffs. For instance, last Saturday about 3 small planes visited during the day for brief periods, so we want to watch out for our motorized friends. Diev may want to comment with more instructions on this issue.
Sidenote: Sunday there were a couple of super aerobatic pilots using New J for operations for a time. The wind was blowing straight down the runway from the NW at a steady 25 with 35mph gusts. A big pilot with a Russian accent was pouring a quart of oil into his engine while I asked him if he was going to use the taxiway at all. He said "no we don't use that", got in and took off downwind using a short amount of the strip. Cool.
Please drive slow on the dirt roads while entering and exiting the area since raising dust upsets locals.
Flying low around residences in mosquitos resulted in the Sherrif visiting us once.
The center median has some type of planted crop growing in it now so we may not want to drive over it.
The weather is looking promising and I hope everyone has a great time.
Dan
